Joaquín Castillo has been elected the 39th President of the European Golf Association (EGA) at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held in the Netherlands. The Spaniard will serve a two-year term, leading the association until November 2027.
Castillo succeeds Caroline Huyskes, who steps down as President but will remain on the EGA Executive Committee for the next two years as the Immediate Past President. Castillo had been serving as President-Elect since 2023, following five years on the EGA Championship Committee.
“It is a great honour and privilege to be elected as the new President of the European Golf Association,” said Castillo. “As I take on this role, I do so with deep gratitude and enthusiasm. The faith you have placed in me is both a privilege and a responsibility – one that I embrace with great excitement.”
The new President brings a comprehensive background to the role, with over 30 years of experience as a seasoned executive leader across sports, tourism, and event management in both public and private sectors.
A former member and captain of multiple Spanish national golf teams in the 1970s and 1980s, Castillo's executive history includes a 10-year tenure as manager of Club de Campo Villa de Madrid and later serving as the General Director for Tourism of the region of Madrid. He has also been a prominent figure for the EGA at recent editions of the Bonallack Trophy and Patsy Hankins Trophy.
