Renowned golf course architect Agustin Pizá took center stage at the 2025 Spanish Association of Golf Club Managers (AEGG) Congress this November, delivering a provocative keynote to over 250 industry professionals on the evolution of the sport.
Under the guiding philosophy, “We must imagine the future in order to design the present,” Pizá outlined a vision where golf courses transcend traditional boundaries through technology, sustainability, and social utility.
A central theme of Pizá’s presentation was his involvement in TGL, the high-tech golf league that is currently redefining how the sport connects with younger, tech-savvy audiences through immersive experiences. Pizá argued that the integration of advanced technology is no longer optional but a necessity for the sport's growth.
He also introduced the delegation to the core pillars of the Pizá Golf design philosophy, which focus on maximizing land use and player well-being:
For Pizá, the engagement held personal significance beyond the professional stage. "I leave the congress inspired and convinced that Spain is ready to continue exploring a more creative, human, and forward-looking approach to the game of golf," Pizá stated.
The architect, whose family name originates from Mallorca, noted the importance of the location. "Discussing the future of golf in this setting provided an opportunity to engage with both professional developments and my heritage in a meaningful manner.”
The AEGG, Spain’s leading body for golf operations, hosted the event at the Hotel Meliá Villaitana, featuring a course designed by Nicklaus Design. Pizá expressed his gratitude to AEGG General Manager Alberto Talavera, President Eduardo Ruiz Méndez, and Mauricio Marín, Director of Meliá Villaitana, for their leadership and hospitality.
With a Master’s Degree in Golf Course Architecture from Edinburgh University, Agustin Pizá is a member of both the EIGCA and the ASGCA. Twice named by Forbes as one of the "Top 100 Inventive Minds from Mexico," and recognized by Golf Inc. as a "Top Five Visionary of the Year," Pizá has contributed to more than 80 projects across three continents. He currently serves as the Director of the First Tee in Mexico and operates design studios in San Diego and Puerto Vallarta.
