Muirfield will stage Europe’s only senior major championship when the ISPS HANDA Senior Open returns to the venue in 2028.
The East Lothian course will host the 41st edition of the event from August 10–13, 2028. This marks the second time Muirfield has hosted the championship, following its initial turn in 2007.
During the 2007 championship at Muirfield, eight-time major champion Tom Watson won his third Senior Open title by one shot. The victory came 27 years after Watson won The Open at the same venue.
Watson remains one of five players to win both The Open and the Senior Open, and the only player to achieve the feat at the same venue twice, having done so at both Muirfield and Turnberry.
Home to The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, Muirfield was originally laid out as an 18-hole course by Old Tom Morris in 1891 following the club's relocation from Musselburgh.

The ISPS HANDA Senior Open is co-sanctioned by the Staysure Legends Tour and PGA TOUR Champions, counting toward the Staysure Legends Tour Order of Merit and the Schwab Cup.
