Fairmont St Andrews Names Campbell as New General Manager

17 June, 2026

ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND — Fairmont St Andrews has announced the appointment of seasoned executive Kristian Campbell as its new General Manager, marking a distinct new chapter for the world-renowned 520-acre luxury coastal estate.

Campbell steps into the role following the departure of Kai Winkler, who led the property for nearly a decade before relocating to lead the Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt.

A Unique Intersection of Hospitality and Healthcare

What makes Campbell’s appointment particularly notable is his diverse leadership portfolio. He joins the Accor-managed resort directly from the healthcare sector, where he most recently served as Managing Director for Elanic Medical.

However, Campbell is no stranger to high-end hospitality—or to the historic home of golf. He brings over two decades of experience to the role, including previous General Manager tenures at the nearby Rusacks Hotel in St Andrews and the Crieff Hydro Hotel and Resort. His eclectic background also spans senior roles at BMI Healthcare and QHotels, alongside entrepreneurial ventures as the proprietor of Sessions Bar and Etat Italian restaurant.

"Kristian’s unique blend of luxury hospitality expertise and high-level healthcare administration positions him perfectly to oversee the estate’s next phase, particularly as wellness and world-class service become increasingly intertwined."

Steering a Luxury Giant

In his new position, Campbell will take total operational command of one of Scotland’s most prestigious destinations. His core focus will center on:

  • Driving Transformation: Overseeing upcoming evolution initiatives under the resort's holding company, St Andrews Bay Development Limited (acquired by a Great Century-led consortium in 2019).
  • Culture & Talent: Fostering team culture and championing workforce development—a passion reflected in his voluntary role as a board member for Hospitality Apprenticeship Scotland.
  • Estate Operations: Managing the sprawling cliffside property's extensive luxury footprint.

Fairmont St Andrews at a Glance

Accommodations 211 luxury bedrooms and suites
Golf Two 18-hole championship courses (The Torrance and The Kittocks)

With a deep understanding of the local St Andrews market and a proven track record of managing complex, high-stakes operations across two distinct industries, Campbell is uniquely equipped to elevate the resort's status as a premier global destination for golf, wellness, and luxury travel.
