UK Golf Federation Backs ‘Unleash Your Drive’ to Revolutionize Junior Participation

7 May, 2026

LONDON, UK – The UK Golf Federation (UKGF) has officially announced its role as a Venue Supporting Partner for the 2026 Unleash Your Drive initiative, a nationwide program aimed at introducing a new generation of children to the sport.

Working in collaboration with The Golf Foundation and the British Golf Industry Association, the UKGF is spearheading efforts to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the golf course. Following a successful pilot year, the 2026 rollout aims to expand to 100 local projects across the country.

From the Classroom to the Course

The initiative utilizes a two-tier approach designed to make golf both accessible and inclusive for primary school students:

  1. School Phase: A six-week introductory program delivered by teachers within primary schools.

  2. Club Phase: A subsequent six-week coaching stint at local golf clubs led by PGA Coaches or Community Golf Instructors.

This structure allows pupils to transition from basic skills to real-world experience on the course, with many then progressing into the GolfSixes League.

Industry Support and Vision

To lower the barrier for entry, participating venues receive significant backing. The Golf Foundation provides a £100 contribution toward coaching costs, along with dedicated resources and equipment packs for schools to ensure the next generation has the tools they need to succeed.

Doug Poole, CEO of the UK Golf Federation, emphasized that the partnership is about more than just sport—it is about community and the future of the industry.

"We’re very proud to support a programme that strengthens the links between golf facilities and their local communities," said Poole. "By providing a clear pathway from the classroom to the course, the industry can ensure a healthy future for the game while making golf accessible to a more diverse group of young people."

A Call to Action for UK Facilities

The UKGF is currently urging its members and all facility owners to register as host venues for the 2026 season. By participating, clubs can foster lasting relationships with local schools and significantly boost grassroots participation.

Facilities interested in joining the initiative can find more information and registration details via the official portal: www.golf-foundation.org/uydinclubs.
