West Sussex Golf Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Slinger as its new Secretary/General Manager. A highly respected figure in the golf industry, Slinger will officially join the 95-year-old club at the end of February.
Slinger arrives from Hayling Golf Club in Hampshire, where he served a successful two-year tenure as General Manager. His leadership at Hayling was defined by the "One Hayling" initiative—a strategic framework that unified governance, management, and membership. Under his guidance, the club achieved full membership across all categories with significant waiting lists and completed major infrastructure projects, including a clubhouse refurbishment and course improvements under the Mackenzie & Ebert Masterplan.
With a career spanning some of the South of England’s most prestigious private members’ clubs, Slinger’s previous experience includes managerial roles at Effingham Golf Club, Mannings Heath Golf Club, and The Manor House.
The appointment marks a pivotal moment for West Sussex Golf Club as it continues its commitment to long-term custodianship of its world-renowned heathland course. Slinger succeeds Al Adams, who departs after eight successful years, having guided the club through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and overseeing the installation of the club’s Orangery and fairway irrigation system.
Commenting on his move, Steve Slinger said:
"After two incredibly rewarding years, my time as general manager at Hayling Golf Club will shortly be coming to a premature end – but very much for all the right reasons. I leave Hayling feeling immensely proud of what we achieved together and grateful for the trust, support and belief shown by the committee, membership and management team."
Looking ahead to his new role at West Sussex, Slinger added:
"I’m extremely proud to be joining West Sussex Golf Club as it enters its next chapter. It is a majestic, world-renowned course with truly unique course architecture, a fascinating history and very high exciting aspirations for the future. As someone who first played the course as a junior some 40 years ago – and as a Pulborough resident – it truly feels like home from home."
Founded 95 years ago and located in Pulborough, West Sussex Golf Club is home to one of England’s finest heathland courses. Renowned for its unique architecture and rich history, the club remains a premier destination for golfers seeking a world-class experience in a traditional private members' setting.
