The golf boom in Sweden shows no signs of slowing down, with active player numbers reaching an all-time high. In 2026, the country registered 551,941 active golfers, marking a gain of 3,085 players compared to the previous year. This growth extends a multi-year upward trajectory across the nation's courses, reinforcing the sport's widespread popularity.
Despite total participation reaching new heights, female involvement is trending in the opposite direction. The total number of female golfers dropped by approximately 1.5 percent over the past year.
This decline spans both age demographics, impacting junior and senior divisions alike. Following the drop, women and girls now account for just under 22 percent of all registered golfers in the country.
Closing the participation gap remains a primary goal for governing bodies monitoring the sport’s long-term sustainability and growth.
Addressing the disparity remains a top priority for leaders in the sport, with the Swedish Golf Association stating:
"A more even gender distribution is one of the most important issues for the future of Swedish golf."
