Provence’s Terre Blanche Solidifies Global Lead in Sustainability with Dual Certification Renewal

14 April, 2026

Terre Blanche Hotel Spa Golf Resort has confirmed its reputation as one of the world’s most sustainable golf destinations by successfully retaining two of the industry's most rigorous environmental honors: GEO Certified® and Clef Verte (Green Key).

The resort, currently ranked as France’s No. 1 Golf Resort, was lauded by the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf for its "long-term environmental vision." Central to this achievement has been the resort's transition to drought-resistant Bermuda grass and the implementation of advanced water management systems.

Systems-Driven Sustainability

Hector Forcen, the independent verifier for the GEO certification, noted that the resort's success is rooted in effective, systems-driven action.

“Key initiatives include converting to drought-resistant Bermuda grass, advanced water management and on-site wastewater treatment,” Forcen stated. “The greenkeeping team’s dedicated efforts to protect the course environment have also helped raise awareness and educate staff, members, and the community, solidifying the resort's role as a true sustainability leader.”

The GEO Certified® status is the most respected international mark for sustainability in golf, evaluating a venue's impact on nature, resources, community, and climate. Simultaneously, the Clef Verte—a prestigious label bestowed by the French government—recognizes the resort’s commitment to sustainable tourism within its five-star hotel and hospitality operations.

A Decade of Commitment

For Terre Blanche, these renewals are not a one-time achievement but part of a decade-long strategy. The resort first achieved GEO Certified® status in 2016.

“Retaining this label reinforces our long-term commitment to sustainability across our golf courses, the wider resort and our residential community,” said Marc Delauné, President of Terre Blanche. “This renewal, as well as that of our Clef Verte, recognise our collective efforts to protect nature, manage resources responsibly and support the local community. It also places Terre Blanche among an international network of golf destinations actively leading the way in sustainable practices.”

National and Global Recognition

The 300-hectare estate, located just 45 minutes from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, holds a unique position in the French landscape. It is one of only three golf venues in the country to receive the Gold Certificate for Biodiversity from the French Golf Federation and the National Museum of Natural History.

The 36-hole European Tour Destination's environmental efforts were recently showcased globally in an episode of The Green Report by Syngenta, which highlights world-leading sustainable golf courses.

Luxury Meets Responsibility

As a World Top 100 Resort, Terre Blanche continues to balance ultra-luxury with environmental stewardship. The estate features:

  • A five-star luxury hotel and world-class spa.
  • A Michelin-starred restaurant.
  • Europe’s top golf academy.
  • A private members’ club set within a sprawling Provencal estate.

By securing these renewals, Terre Blanche ensures that its status as a premier destination for travelers from Europe, North America, and the Middle East remains inextricably linked to its role as a guardian of the French Riviera’s natural landscape.
