Bermuda’s prestigious Mid Ocean Club has unveiled plans for an extensive restoration of its world-renowned golf course, alongside a major investment project aimed at upgrading its member amenities and modernising its iconic clubhouse.
The course restoration will be spearheaded by celebrated American golf course architect Gil Hanse. As the only Charles Blair Macdonald design outside the United States, the layout holds a unique place in global golf history, currently ranking 44th in Golf Digest’s World’s 100 Greatest Courses (outside America) and holding a spot among the Top 100 Platinum Clubs of the World.
To support this new era, the venue has appointed Scottish PGA Professional Jody Addison to lead operations. Raised playing at Montrose-the world’s fifth-oldest golf club-Addison refined his career at iconic British venues Royal Liverpool and Sunningdale before accumulating two decades of international experience across five-star private clubs and luxury resort communities.
Austen Gravestock, General Manager and Chief Executive of Mid Ocean Club, highlighted the strategic importance of the upcoming developments:
"Mid Ocean Club is recognised among the finest private golf clubs in the world, and the investment projects we are embarking upon are designed to preserve that legacy for generations to come.

"We are delighted to welcome Jody to our team at this important time. His personal approach to service and high standards across all areas of our golf operation will be appreciated by members, while his experience developing a world-class performance centre will also be extremely valuable as we upgrade our amenities."
In addition to overseeing the course project and daily operations, Addison will focus on introducing high-end practice and performance facilities to match the venue's world-class reputation.
"Mid Ocean Club has a legendary reputation worldwide," said Addison. "My vision is to build upon its incredible history while elevating our day-to-day services, ensuring that every time a member or guest steps onto the property, they experience the absolute pinnacle of what world-class private golf has to offer."
