Transformed La Grande Mare Golf Course Reopens in Guernsey

10 August, 2026

The transformed La Grande Mare golf course in Guernsey has officially reopened following a comprehensive, full-scale redesign and rebuild project.

Course Design and Features

The rebuilt facility features a 5,367-yard, par-69 layout designed by Robin Hiseman of European Golf Design and constructed by MJ Abbott Ltd.

Key architectural updates to the course include:

  • Wider fairways to enhance playability
  • Refined bunkering throughout the course
  • Links-inspired contours shaping the landscape
  • New water features integrated into the routing

Project Management and Agronomic Support

Agronomic consulting firm Turfgrass® provided continuous support across every stage of the development, spanning initial feasibility studies, construction, and the final grow-in phase.

Their scope of work encompassed:

  • Agronomic and construction specifications
  • Comprehensive drainage planning
  • Material testing
  • On-site construction management
  • Ongoing agronomic support

Team Collaboration

The initiative was led by Senior Agronomist and Project Manager Jonathan Pendry of Turfgrass®. Pendry's team worked in close coordination with La Grande Mare Course Manager Rick Hamilton, European Golf Design, and the broader project team to execute the design vision and establish setup protocols aimed at long-term agronomic performance.
