The Alto Club Opens New Manuel Piñero-Designed Par-3 Course in Sotogrande

6 October, 2026

SOTOGRANDE, Spain — October 2026 — The Alto Club has officially opened a new 9-hole Par-3 golf course located within the SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort. Two-time Major champion Suzann Pettersen and seven-time DP World Tour winner Álvaro Quirós attended the launch, joining over 40 guests for a shotgun tournament to mark the opening.

Course Design and Facility Details

Designed by Ryder Cup legend Manuel Piñero, the new Par-3 layout features holes ranging from approximately 80 to 200 metres. The course is intended to cater to players of all ages and skill levels, offering accessible play for beginners and families while serving as a practice area for experienced golfers to focus on their iron play and short game.

The new addition completes The Alto Club’s Golf & Academy setup, joining its existing 18-hole course, Golf Academy, and Toptracer-equipped driving range.

Pettersen, who serves as Global Ambassador of The Alto Club Golf Academy, participated in the event alongside Spanish professional Quirós.

Stéphane, General Manager of SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort, commented on the strategic expansion:

“The opening of our new Par 3 course is an important step in the development of The Alto Club. We want to give members and guests more ways to enjoy golf, whether they are discovering the game, playing together as a family or working on their skills.“

“It was a pleasure to celebrate this milestone with Suzann and Álvaro. The new course adds another dimension to the experience we offer at SO/ Sotogrande, combining golf with the hospitality, wellness and gastronomy that make our resort so special.”

Regional Context and Resort Background

The Alto Club is situated within Sotogrande, a 20 km² residential and sports destination in the Cádiz province of Andalucía, stretching from the Mediterranean Sea to the Sierra Almenara foothills. Founded in 1962 by Colonel Joseph McMicking, the estate is developed by Sotogrande S.A.

Key structural details of the destination include:

  • Demographics: Home to 2,500 permanent international households, growing to approximately 8,000 during high season, along with over 300 businesses.
  • Infrastructure: Includes Sotogrande International School, a revitalised marina with dining and retail venues, and four championship golf courses.
  • Development Density: Operating under a low-density model with construction restricted to 25% of the total land area.
  • Location & Transport: Located 30 minutes west of Marbella, with regional transit accessible via Gibraltar and Málaga airports.

Following an ownership change in 2014, the estate underwent infrastructure upgrades, road repairs, and expansion projects. Among these developments is La Reserva Club, a 600-hectare residential and leisure enclave featuring an 18-hole golf course, two restaurants, tennis and padel courts, a beach club with a sandy beach, a semi-Olympic pool, a sports lagoon, a wellness area, and a children’s club.
