The Club Company Acquires Historic Moor Allerton Golf Club in Yorkshire

12 September, 2026

The Club Company has announced its acquisition of Moor Allerton Golf Club, adding one of Yorkshire’s most historic golfing venues to its expanding UK portfolio. The deal marks another milestone in the operator's strategy to acquire country clubs with established heritage and long-term potential, bringing its total portfolio to 18 country clubs across England.

A Century of Golfing History

Founded in 1923, Moor Allerton Golf Club spans 220 acres of Yorkshire countryside. The club originally played on a course designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie before relocating in 1970 to its current 27-hole layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Over its century-long history, the venue has established a reputation as one of the region's leading golf facilities.

Leadership Strategy and Vision

Following the acquisition, The Club Company stated it intends to maintain the club's traditions while investing in its operational facilities, hospitality, and member experience.

"Moor Allerton has a proud heritage, a loyal membership and a reputation that has been built over generations," said Richard Calvert, Chief Executive Officer of The Club Company. "We see ourselves not simply as owners, but as custodians, with a responsibility to protect the heritage, traditions and values that have shaped the club for more than a century."

Calvert outlined the group's operational approach moving forward: "Our approach has always been simple: respect a club's heritage, plan for the long term and continually enhance the experience for members and visitors alike. Great clubs never stand still, and our ambition is to build on the exceptional foundations that already exist at Moor Allerton, drawing on our experience of operating leading country clubs and an unwavering focus on delivering an outstanding member experience, whilst remaining true to the character and values that define the club today."

Club Representative Endorsement

Representatives from Moor Allerton expressed confidence in the transition, citing the buyer's operational track record and capital resources.

"Throughout this process, it became clear that The Club Company shares our belief that great clubs should continue to evolve whilst remaining true to the heritage and values that make them unique," said Ian Land, spokesperson for Moor Allerton. "Their proven track record of investing in well-established country clubs, enhancing the customer and member experience, and operating successful country clubs gave us complete confidence that they are the right organisation to build on everything that has made Moor Allerton so special."

Land added: "We believe The Club Company has the experience, resources and long-term vision to help Moor Allerton realise its full potential while respecting the traditions and character that have defined the club for more than a century."

Next Steps for the Transition

The Club Company will begin working with members, staff, and the local golfing community to integrate the facility into its wider collection, using its operational expertise to bolster the club's position in Yorkshire.
