Golf Ireland has introduced a new educational campaign to clarify the principles and operation of the World Handicap System™ (WHS™), five years after its initial rollout in 2020.
The initiative features a nine-part video series designed to address frequent inquiries from players and clubs while detailing how the handicapping framework functions locally and globally.
The educational series focuses on key areas of the handicapping structure, responding directly to user feedback gathered since 2020. Topics scheduled across the campaign include:
Mark Wehrly, Championships & Rules Director at Golf Ireland, outlined the motivation behind the initiative:
“Five years on from the introduction of WHS, we continue to receive valuable feedback and questions from golfers and clubs. This series is designed to provide clear and accessible information on some of the most common topics, while also explaining how the system operates and the role Golf Ireland plays in its administration.”
“Our aim is to help golfers better understand the principles behind WHS and increase confidence in the system through education and awareness.”
The campaign forms part of Golf Ireland’s broader strategy to support member clubs and players through ongoing education.
The first episode has been released and covers the historical origins and purpose of WHS, the governing bodies overseeing the framework, and Golf Ireland's position within the global alliance that manages the system. Remaining episodes will be published sequentially across Golf Ireland’s digital and social media channels in the coming weeks.
