Tiger Woods Reportedly Selected for £30 Million Links Golf Course Project in Northern Ireland

26 October, 2026

Fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods and his design firm, TGR Design, have reportedly been chosen to design a new £30 million championship golf course at Bellarena on Northern Ireland’s north coast. While formal confirmation from the project developers remains pending, local government officials state the appointment has been finalized.

The Bellarena Project Briefing

The proposed course is situated near Magilligan on the Causeway Coast and forms part of a development plan first unveiled in 2025 by hospitality group Galgorm Collection. The developer aims to expand Northern Ireland's infrastructure for international golf tourism.

According to reports by the Derry Journal, local council briefings indicate Woods has been secured for the design. A Causeway Coast and Glens councillor confirmed the status during an official presentation:

"We received a briefing and it was confirmed to us that Tiger Woods has been signed up to design the course at Bellarena."

However, Galgorm Collection has stopped short of publicly naming TGR Design as the lead architect. A spokesperson for the company stated:

"We are progressing plans for a proposed championship course at Bellarena, on Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coast. We look forward to confirming a design appointment in due course."

If officialized, the layout would mark Woods’ first course design commission in Ireland and the first new links course constructed in Northern Ireland in a century.

TGR Design Portfolio Expansion

Woods established TGR Design in 2006, building an international portfolio that includes full-length courses such as Bluejack National in Texas, El Cardonal at Diamante in Mexico, and Payne’s Valley in Missouri. The firm has also designed short-course layouts, including The Hay at Pebble Beach, California.

A links assignment at Bellarena would represent TGR Design's entry into classic coastal layout architecture, which is characterized by natural terrain, oceanfront elements, and variable weather conditions.

Competitive Career and Future Outings

The design reporting comes amid ongoing questions regarding Woods' playing schedule. He has not appeared in competitive action since missing the cut at the 2024 Open Championship. His schedule has faced additional challenges following a March 2026 rollover crash and a resulting five-year driving ban.

Former TGL teammate Kevin Kisner recently indicated that Woods may compete in the virtual league’s third season. Additional speculative targets for his competitive return include December’s Hero World Challenge, the 2027 Masters Tournament, and a prospective appearance alongside his son Charlie at the PNC Championship.
